Pride and Prejudice (2009) Review

By Vanessa Lewis

The movie up to review this week is Pride and Prejudice. Based on Jane Austen’s novel, five sisters live together with their parents. The Bennet family is your average family with a decent living, but to keep up their lifestyle the daughters must find someone to marry (marriage was the only option for them, as they were to inherit nothing based on their gender). In today’s times that would sound quite crazy, but in the 19th century, one’s family reputation depended on it. Mrs. Bennet’s goal to marry off her daughters. Jane, her eldest, meets Mr. Bingley who is accompanied by his best friend Mr. Darcy. Throughout the film Lizzie and Mr. Darcy seem to be catching each other’s eyes, but Mr. Darcy has an unpleasant reputation. Watch this movie to find out where Lizzie and Mr. Darcy’s pride leads them.
